I’m Going Walkabout

In 11 days My Royal Consort and I are leaving for an extended road/camping trip. After we see Oldest and Youngest safely back to their respective colleges on the morning of January 9, we are driving to Rice, Texas where we will pick up the 17′ trailer that will be our home for three months.

From Rice, we plan to head south to San Padre Island and then go west to Big Bend. After that, our plans become very nebulous. Some of our goals are to see beautiful country, hike, and meet interesting people. I also hope to hit some good thrift shops like the one we went to in Tucson last winter.

If we run out of gas in the desert, get beat up by republicans, or bitten by rattlesnakes, I will embrace the situation with the same zen equanimity I demonstrated when I accidentally flew our family to California instead of Costa Rica, because I will be gathering  great material to share with you.

If you enjoy travel writing and the quirkiness and splendor of rural America as seen through the eyes of a lucky white girl who can turn a good phrase, then please consider subscribing to the site.

Hasta pronto, MP

Good luck. You and your consort are my favorite out-law and in-law. Say “howdy” to Walker, Texas Ranger for me!

The Blanton, in Austin, is a stunning Ot Museum that you and Jack will enjoy.

Thanks for that info. As much as Austin has been like the promised land to me, I think we will circle back to it when the weather gets a little warmer. I am so excited to go there and hear all that music!

What’s wrong with Arkansas? It’s full of Ivory-billed woodpeckers, and your lefty friend W. J. Clinton done growed up there! Speaking of lefties, don’t miss Austin whilst you are in Tejas. You can have fun, fun, fun with Miss Carlotta.

The fact that the Clintons once lived there gives me courage. It’s the draconian penal code that gives me a rash!

Hey ! We can’t wait to hear what trouble you two get into. If you need any bail money we will contribute $20.00. Take mucho photos. xo, Renee & Gilly

I’ll hold you to that. Terrified of what could happen in Arkansas as we pass through!

years ago, we quite enjoyed Hot Springs National Park. Don’t miss the bath house !

I would sell my soul for a hot spring right now. Thanks for the tip. XOXO
